Norm and Company

Norm & Company: Justin Vigdor • WXXI-TV

In memory of Rochester attorney Justin Vigdor, who passed away earlier this week, WXXI presents a special broadcast of  an episode of Norm & Company from 2013 featuring Mr. Vigdor as the guest.

Norm & Company: Justin Vigdor airs Friday, January 3 at 5:30 p.m. on WXXI-TV.

In 2013, Mr. Vigdor, then Senior Counsel at Boylan Code LLP, sat down with WXXI President Norm Silverstein for an episode of Norm & Company. In the episode he speaks about his military law career, how he came to make Rochester his home, and his extensive involvement in the Rochester community.

Hosted by former and long-time WXXI President Norm Silverstein, Norm & Company is a series where long-time Rochesterians recount fascinating stories about their lives in the community.

Norm & Company Special Edition: Honoring Norm Silverstein • Watch On-Demand

In a special final episode of “Norm & Company,” Norm Silverstein becomes the guest.

WXXI President Norm Silverstein will retire this year after 28 years at the helm of WXXI. In turning the tables on the very show where Norm has interviewed 22 guests, he sits down with Connections host Evan Dawson to discuss how his leadership transformed the station, his thoughts on the state of journalism in 2024, the documentaries produced over the years, and how public media enhances the lives of kids, families, and the community.

“I’ve never really thought much about my legacy, to be honest, but I always thought about the station. I wanted people to think about WXXI as being a place where they want to come to work — and being a place that makes a difference”.
– WXXI President Norm Silverstein

During his time, he has seen the organization grow from one television and two radio stations to a public media organization that now includes four public television stations, one cable channel for the city of Rochester, and six public radio stations. WXXI also operates the Little Theatre and CITY magazine. Norm is proud of how the organization has grown since he started in 1995, but what he’s most proud of is how WXXI and its various entities have been able to serve the Greater Rochester community.

Norm was recently interviewed by Randy Gorbman, of WXXI News and was asked about his mindset as he was coming to the end of his run as WXXI’s President: “We’re a much different station than we were when I got here 28 years ago, and of course, you’d expect that,” Norm said. “We have some terrific people, I think we’re respected for what we do, and people are going to continue to support us.”

Norm & Company: Tribute to Jane & Larry Glazer On-Demand

WXXI remembers the Glazers in this special tribute.

WXXI presents a special tribute broadcast in memory of Jane and Larry Glazer, who died in the crash of their small plane in September. Last March the Glazers sat down with WXXI President Norm Silverstein for an episode of Norm & Company, and a specially edited version of that program.

In the tribute, Silverstein introduces the archived episode and shares how important the Glazers were to the Rochester community. Then we join a conversation recorded in March 2013, where the Glazers recounted how they met, why they chose to make Rochester their home, and why they devoted their lives to making this community a better place to live. Larry Glazer, CEO and Managing Partner of Buckingham Properties, told how he got his start and how he became one of Rochester’s biggest developers. He was the man behind Alexander Place (the old Genesee Hospital site) and the development of the new Midtown tower.  Jane Glazer owned QCI Direct, a mail order company that last year saw $50 million in sales.
